Thank You and HAVE A GREAT DAY! the "Hillbilly Gardener"
Just look at a few of the things you can find here! We're much more than flowers and vegetables!
Among the first things God created in the beginning was a garden and mankind has been nurturing and caring for plants and the soil ever since. The Bible tell us that God created man from the dust of the earth and we have sought a relationship with the soil since that day. Wars have been fought over it and many have died protecting it. We have nurtured, tended, enriched and cared for it with a tenacious zeal and yes, often damaged or destroyed it through our ignorance or indifference.
Early man would have noticed the birds of the air and soon learned their flight, migration, eating and nesting habits. He would have delighted in their graceful flight and beautiful songs. He would have noticed how many of them would leave for a season in the winter, only to return the following spring and how many birds would appear for a short while each spring and fall as they passed through on their yearly migrations. He would have also noticed how many birds would even help him in his quest to bring food to the table by eating many of the insects that ate his crops and yes, some of them would have among the creations seeking to also take it away.
It only stands to reason that man would have discovered that while many insects sought to destroy what he worked so hard to grow, many insects were equally working hard to protect his crops by preying upon those insects that ate them. Since that time, conscientious gardeners have been marveling at, enticing, introducing and nurturing these garden helpers wherever crops are cultivated and we look to them as our friends.
Somewhere along the way, man learned to cook his food over an open fire at the end of a hard day in the field and he has been enjoying grilling ever since. This surely was the start of the original BBQ and soon he would have learned that by adding various herbs, spices and sauces, his food tasted better. Early man would have gathered around open fires to enjoy their meals and the company of family and friends. Perhaps, friends from surrounding dwellings would have joined him in the evening and enjoyed his hospitality. So it seems only natural that gardening, outdoor living and entertaining all go hand in hand.
Among the things man would have learned was the way the seasons changed and the interaction between the seasons, weather and the phases of the moon, stars and sun and how this effected his environment and crops. He learned to recognize the signs that led to a changing of the weather and of the fury that nature can bring in the form of storms and other often frightening phenomena. With time man learned to recognize the unseen things that were a part the changing weather and how things unseen could be used to accurately predict the weather. This gave man the ability to circumvent many of the ravages of weather that so often spelled disaster for his lovingly tended plants.
As man became more and more civilized, he started to desire to dress up his outdoor space with finer things to make the area uniquely his and started decorating his outdoor living area. He would adorn it with sparkly things and things that fluttered and moved in the wind. Comfortable outdoor furniture would become a necessity so he could sit outside in comfort to enjoy his outdoor world and relax. The open fire would give way to more refined methods of cooking and thus the modern grill was born.
Mankind, is one of the few of God's creations that inhabit this earth that by and large their level of activity changes very little with the changing of the sun from day to night. In the beginning, his activities would have been limited to the area lighted by the glow of his campfires. But as man developed, he would would have gained increased mobility through the development of lamps and torches, which soon evolved into more refined forms of lighting in the form of lanterns and candles.
Not being content with his present state of technology and being a creation that continually strives for new advances in achievement, mankind eventually discovered electricity and developed an artificial form of lighting his way called the light bulb. With this new technology, man could light up and enjoy his outdoor world with a simple flip of a switch and outdoor lighting. This added a whole new dimension to enjoying his outdoor living area after the sun went down and thus beckoned him outdoors for even greater periods of time. But mankind still was not content and wanted more.
Through research, mankind learned that it was possible to store energy from the sun and use it to his enjoyment by lighting lamps after the sun went down without the need for wires and power pumps, fans, entertainment devices and much more. Thus was born solar lighting and a whole new world of electrically powered devices without cords or wires.
